Janet Coffman, MA, MPP, PhD

Dr. Coffman is on the faculty of UCSF’s Healthforce Center as well as the Department of Family and Community Medicine and Philip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies. Additionally, she serves on CHBRP’s medical effectiveness team. Previously, she has worked for UC Berkeley, the US Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs, and the San Francisco Department of Public Health.

As a health services researcher, Dr. Coffman has contributed significantly to health policy both within California and in the US. She has written various reports and articles about the supply of and demand for health care workers, geographic maldistribution, and ways in which racial and ethnic diversity among health care professionals can be improved. Dr. Coffman’s additional research interests include health care reform, paths to care for vulnerable populations, and developments in the management of chronic medical conditions.

Dr. Coffman received both her PhD in Health Services and Policy Analysis and her Master’s Degree in Public Policy from UC Berkeley.
